Insta-love has been a popular trope for literally hundreds of years. Remember Sleeping Beauty? She literally fell in love with a man she just met. LOL. That sounds like a line from another Disney movie – Frozen.

While I love that more and more authors and screenwriters are showing us that love at first sight isn’t always the smartest choice, I think insta-love has gotten a bad rap.

There’s something undeniably romantic about instant attraction. About being drawn to someone for reasons you can’t quite put your finger on. Yet there’s a huge backlash against insta-love, and I don’t quite understand it. Not all of us fall for someone we’ve known for years or someone who we were friends with first. So why should we expect our fictional characters to follow this pattern? That’s why I say bring on the butterflies in the stomach, and hearts that pound, whether it be for some guy we’ve known for years or someone that, yes, we just met. Attraction doesn’t always have to make sense. Some of the most magical and beautiful love stories began with two people who just knew they were meant to be together.  And I don’t know about you, but I’d like to keep reading stories like that.
